Bernd Becher (German, 1931- ) Hilla Becher (German, 1934- ) Bernd Becher, born in Siegen Germany, studied painting and lithography at the Staatlichen Kunstakademie, Stuttgart, and studied typography at the Staatlichen Kunstakademie, Dusseldorf, from 1957-1961. Hilla studied photography in Potsdam (where she was born) and painting at Staatlichen Kunstakademie. After they married in 1961, the Bechers began working together as free-lance photographic artists. The focus of their photographic art is the documentation of architectonic culture by creating forms of architectural typologies framed with a serial quality. Both artists are photography instructors at the Staatlichen Kunstakademie, Dusseldorf. - Joyce Roetter Selected Bibliography Andre, Carl. "Anote on Bernhard and Hilla Becher."
